Scope and Contents

Typewritten fact sheet published by the Information Service of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) revised as of 1 July 1962. The item describes the history, organization, and basic doctrines of the Mormon Church.

Abstract

This collection consists of photocopies of early manuscripts of revelations given to Joseph Smith, most of which are contained in the modern LDS Church's Doctrine and Covenants. Note: Unless otherwise noted, the originals of these documents are located in the Historical Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Salt Lake City.

Scope and Contents Two handwritten booklets. One booklet is a list of people which were persecuted and imprisoned for polygamy in Utah and Idaho. The other item includes copies of a "revelation" (26 Jan. 1880) by the Mormon Apostle, Wilford Woodruff, concerning obedience to the Mormon Church and an excerpt from his journal on the dedication of the St. George Temple in 1877; a list of 28 women believed to have been "sealed" to Joseph Smith (1805-1844); "testimonies" of Mormon Church members; a "revelation"...

Typewritten and signed copy of a Patriarchal blessing, dated March 17, 1931, and given to Alice Bigler Garret. Smith tells Garret that she can be saved if she is obedient to the teachings of the Mormon Church.

Photocopies of typed discourses, testimonies, and other commentary by Dennis Short. He states his disagreemnents with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joseph Smith, and other church leaders, as well as thoughts on gun ownership. Documents are titled House of Short. Dated approximately 1970-1979.

Typewritten essays concerning the proper line of authority in religion. Hunt argues that the proper authority is only found in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Handwritten record of Mormon Church meetings in Springville, Utah. The item was kept by an unknown person. The account relates the nature of the meetings; mentions the Mormon Church leaders who gave talks; summarizes the talks, testimonies, and prophecies given; discusses community matters; and outlines important political issues of the day.

Scope and Contents Typewritten revelation written down by Edward Lunt. Lunt claimed that the material in the revelation was told to him by his mother many times. His mother supposedly got the information from the third president of the Mormon Church, John Taylor (1808-1887). Sometimes called the "Horseshoe Prophecy" the revelation states that there would be a major falling away from the leadership of the Mormon Church, that blood would run in the gutters of Salt Lake City, Utah, and that the faithful Mormons...
